I’m thrilled to be one of ten finalists for the UK New Artist award showing at the Saatchi gallery on the 9th November 2023! The jury selected ten finalists across the country from 1600 entries.

About me

Born in Manchester, Anna descends from early Chinese migrants who arrived in the UK in the 1910s. After the ship her great grandfather was working on was bombed, he moved from sea to land and set up one of the first Chinese restaurants in the West End in London.

It was Anna's early experiences in life that shaped her art. Her father’s academic career meant a life on the move; different countries, different schools, different people. Her upbringing sparked her curiosity in people and psyches. In her work, she explores the diverse subjects of time, memory, science, and the human condition. Her cultural identity - of being both British and Chinese - has been a source of inspiration as well as conflict.

"You'd be crazy to do it." Not the most comforting words you want to hear. But after a 17-year career in technology (many of those years at Google), ‘Dwelling’ marks a return to Anna’s childhood dream of becoming an artist. In the early 2000s she trained at Wimbledon College of Arts, followed by an English Literature BA Hons Degree at the University of Warwick, and postgraduate studies at Motley Theatre Design School.
